Restoring Implants

If missing teeth are making you look and feel older than you really are, there is a solution. Implant dentistry is an effective and proven way to replace teeth, restoring your bite and your smile. With a consultation visit, Dr. Holliday can diagnose your implant needs and spend as much time as necessary answering any questions you may have. Once treatment is decided upon, he will refer you to a specialist in placing implants, usually a periodontist or an oral surgeon.

Restoring Implants

While we don't place the actual implants in the mouth, we do restore them once they've been placed. There are various needs for implants. They can replace single teeth or multiple teeth and can be used to retain partial or complete dentures. Some people are better candidates for implants than others based on their quality and amount of bone, past medical history and whether or not they are a smoker.

Implants are like "screws" that are placed into bone where a tooth used to be. While this "screw" heals, the tissue covers it so that you cannot see it in the mouth. Once the bone integrates with the implant, the implant is uncovered and an abutment is placed on the implant.

An impression is then taken of the abutment and surrounding tissues and a crown is ready to be made to fit over it. When the crown returns from the lab, it is cemented to the abutment, restoring the teeth to their original function and appearance.

During an office visit, we will discuss all your treatment options to replace missing teeth and tell you what we think the best option for you may be. Once implants are decided upon, we will refer you to a specialist to place them, usually a periodontist or an oral surgeon. There is a healing time of a few months to allow the bone to integrate with the implant. Once it is done healing, we will start the process of restoring it with a beautiful crown to return your smile and get you back to feeling like you.
