Teeth Cleaning/ Laser Cavity Detection

Our experienced hygienists are well-trained in all aspects of oral hygiene, care and disease prevention. They can do simple polishing, deep scaling or routine cleanings. Our hygienists are experienced in treating children as well as adults, and are very effective at making nervous children or "first-timers" feel at ease. They are very proficient at taking bitewing or full set x-rays, which reduces retakes, cutting down on x-ray exposure. They use ultrasonic scalers as well as hand scalers to ensure that they clean your teeth thoroughly and completely, with gentleness as their main goal. Our hygienists are complimented daily, not only for their professionalism and knowledge, but for their ability to get the job done with a light touch.

During a cleaning visit, we will chart your periodontal probing depths, take x-rays (if it's time), clean with scalers, floss and polish with a prophy cup. Oral hygiene instruction to help you improve your at-home care is routine, and Dr. Holliday checks every patient, measuring the health of the gums, looking for any problems with the teeth and screening for oral cancer.

In addition to radiographs (x-rays), cavities are detected using the Diagnodent laser, which measures the density of tooth structure to find any soft spots unclear to the naked eye. Just another way technology has made dentistry a more exact science that we are proud to offer to our patients.

Perhaps most importantly, is that when you get your teeth cleaned at our office, you get more than just a prophy. You get our undivided attention. We feel our hygiene appointments are probably the most important aspect of our practice, because that is where we get to know our patients. We do not---and will not---double book. Instead, we schedule 1 hour cleaning appointments for every patient, not only giving us enough time to do a thorough job, but also giving us the chance to get to know our patients through talking to them and, most importantly, listening.

If your regular cleanings are currently scheduled at less than an hour and no dentist checks you at the end, it may time to find one who does.
